One of the key focus areas for CAPA is to assist professional accountancy organisations (PAOs) develop, grow and mature, as reflected in our Mission Statement.
PAOs are membership bodies comprised of individual professional accountants, auditors, and/or accounting technicians who perform a variety of roles in the accountancy field and adhere to high quality standards of practice. When PAOs function properly, they have the ability to provide and maintain accountants to effectively meet the needs of the country in which they operate. This, in turn, supports the production of high quality financial information, which contributes to public and private sector development and has the power to drive economic growth, the effectiveness of international aid, and social progress.
Recognising the vital role that accountants play in establishing confidence in all economies, CAPA works with key stakeholders in the accountancy profession and development partners to assist PAOs and to promote the value of professional accountants across the region. CAPA formed the Professional Accountancy Organisation Development Committee (PAODC) in 2012 to lead such initiatives.
